The 2010 Connect Florida/ SunTUG Sunshine Summit will feature a full day of NonStop education and networking for end-users, third-party vendor partners, and HP. This year we will be having breakfast, lunch, an afternoon coffee break, and an evening networking social.

This year we are going to do things a bit different, and have drawings every couple of hours in order to give more people a chance to win some of the fantastic prizes that have been donated. As always, you must be present to win, but now you have more chances to win while you are there! We are working on the prizes now, and will have more information later.

The cost is $57 per player, which includes lunch, greens fees, cart rental, and range balls. There is a 4-person limit per team. If you need an extra player for your team, be sure to let us know. Registration at the tournament begins at 7:30 am, with an 8:00 am Shotgun Start.

It's going to be a great event, so I hope everyone can join us for at least part of the fun!

We have some very sad news to share with you about Paul Harkins. Paul passed away this weekend, on Saturday, Sept. 13 2008. He was 40 years old and working in Applications Development at J.P.Morgan for almost 2 years. Paul will be sorely missed by his family and friends. Paul leaves behind his wife Christine and two sons, who are 8 and 10 years old.

Please keep Paul and his family in your prayers.

The next class offered by USF's "Center for Excellence for Business Critical Systems" will be held May 6th through May 9th, 2008 from 8:30am - 5:00pm at the USF main campus on Fowler Avenue in Tampa, in the Business Administration Building (BSN), Room 2406.

"Open System Services (OSS) for Guardian developers (U4159S)" is a 4-day class that will provide you with the knowledge to use UNIX commands and utilities and to develop applications in the Open System Services (OSS) environment on HP NonStop Servers. The lectures and labs will focus on OSS basics, commands, utilities, and development tools. In addition you will be introduced to OSS application programming interface (API) usage and the OSS sockets interface. This class is targeted at Guardian knowledgeable developers who want to obtain a thorough grounding in the OSS environment.

The next class offered by USF's "Center for Excellence for Business Critical Systems" will be starting in March as part of their Professional Development Events.

"Java for Business Critical Systems" will be held March 10 - March 14, 2008 from 8:15am - 5:15pm at the USF main campus on Fowler Avenue in Tampa.

"Java for Business Critical Systems" is an intense, 5-day course that will provide attendees with everything they need to know to develop and deploy Business Critical Java Web Applications and Web Services. The course will cover design principles for massively scalable, continuously available applications, utilizing Java Open Source software tools and components that can be downloaded for free from the Internet. Core concepts and the Eclipse development tools and will be covered in-depth; advanced topics will be covered at a high level. Daily labs will provide hands-on experience with the assistance of the instructor.

We are now planning the selection of the courses for 2008. Each course needs a minimum of 5 registered students before USF can commit to give the course. We have 6 courses that have been identified by the preliminary feed-back from our community and would like to get further input on which courses would be most useful to your organization.

SunTUG partnered with HP for a third free training day on Friday November 16th, 2007. It was a huge success!

HB522S -Quick NonStop NS-Series Server Ops & Mgmt for S-Series Operations Users – Intermediate

This one-day course prepared participants to operate and manage the new NonStop NS-series servers. They were introduced to an abbreviated version of the new NonStop Advanced Architecture, Server configuration, operations, and communications through OSM and given a comparison and contrast between the S-series and the NS-series servers.

A big thankyou also to Raymond James for hosting this class at their work site!
